Accepting the paradox

Updated: Sep 6

Whenever the essential nature of things is analysed by the intellect, it must seem absurd or paradoxical. This has always been recognized by the mystics, but has become a problem in science only very recently.

Fritjof Capra - 1975 from "The Tao of Physics: An Exploration of the Parallels Between Modern Physics and Eastern Mysticism".

Some time ago I was working for a company where they wanted to move from their current SAP system to SAP Cloud; multi tennant. This meant that they had to move from a system with extensive customization to a system in which you have to work with standard SAP software. This means a system change, business process change and therefore also organizational change.

Somehow the impression was that the change to the new environment would not be that big. From experience I know that this type of move is comparable to a move to a completely new system. I was not able to get this awareness accross. There was no room to discuss this or have a dialogue about this on a conceptual level. Let's say to exchange thought.

It was simply rejected. And by rejecting it, it does not exist. Doesn't it?

NO! It does not. The only way to be able to deal with this was to acknowledge the possibility. Put some effort in a bit of discovery to be able to exclude the option from the list of possibilities. With this effort, with this little ray of attention, awareness would have struck. Either in my brain, I can also be wrong, or in the brain of the organization.

Neither was possible. The paradox was not accepted. And therefore not recognized and progress halted.
